The Advanced Automotive Research Center (AARC) was established in 2004 with a USD 14 million donation from the Hyundai-Kia Motor Company in 2000. The Center conducts interdisciplinary research on next generation vehicles, and places high emphasis on education and training of automotive engineers, and international collaboration with leading global research institutes in core automotive technologies. Current thrust areas include next generation hybrid and fuel cell vehicles, advanced powertrain design, cartronics and telematics, and interdisciplinary research on materials, manufacturing and MEMS. The Center is funded by diverse sources from both industry and government, including a 5-year, USD 7 million grant from the Korean Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.
